Charlotte Walker: Blogging and Media

I began my blog, purplepersuasion, in May 2011 as way of coping with my mental health difficulties. Since then, it has attracted over 600,000 page views and is now is visited by hundreds of people every day. The blog is read by service users, carers and relatives, health bloggers and journalists, mental health charities and researchers and is increasingly being recommended to service users by mental health professionals.

In January 2013 my blog was voted Best Mood Disorder Blog by the World of Mentalists mental health e-zine and in November was the winner of the prestigious Mark Hanson award for digital media at the Mind Media Awards 2013. I have been profiled on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour, the Guardian and Holland and Barrett’s Healthy magazine and my blog has been recommended by a number of publications including, Guardian Society Daily, the London Evening Standard, Top Santé and the Mail on Sunday health pages. I  am regularly asked to comment on mental health issues and have shared my views with Sky News, BBC Breakfast, The Sun, the Guardian, BBC Online, MPs, the Department for Work and Pensions, NHS England and the Secretary of State for Health.

Blogging and activism have led onto freelance writing for a range of prestigious clients including the BBC, The Lancet Psychiatry, Mind, Rethink Mental Illness, Mumsnet and Stylist magazine.
